REVIEW: 2013 Generation Seven #JeSuisArrive

Thursday, November 21
John Szabo, M.S.

The Generation Seven 2013 Gamay Nouveau from Château des Charmes is an expectedly youthful, fruity red, bottled just one month after harvest, yet it delivers more than expected in terms of overall pleasure. It's fully dry, soft and low in tannin, with balanced but vibrant acids and a pleasant herbaceous undercurrent. It bursts with tart red berry fruit flavours without being overtly tart or lean; it's simply a refreshing glass of wine best enjoyed with a chill and a plate of charcuterie, easily the equal of any nouveaus coming out of Beaujolais, the region where barely finished wines first gained popularity. I have to say I'm quite impressed by the honesty and authenticity on offer, with no apparent enological trickery to get this ready for bottling so early. It goes without saying that this is for immediate consumption.
