ST. CATHARINES — You won’t be able to miss the return of Sons of Anarchy stars to Niagara this July.
There will be nothing quiet about Kim Coates (Tig), cast mate Mark Boone Junior (Bobby) and hundreds of motorcycles rumbling through the region for the third annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Catharines-Thorold & District Ride for Kids Sake July 17-18. It’s the second year Sons of Anarchy stars will be joining the festivities.
Last year’s event was a great success, says Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Catharines-Thorold & District CEO Dale Davis. Coates, along with participants and sponsors, helped the organization raise $35,000 for the “Game On!” mentoring program.
“We are so excited to have Kim participate in our Ride for Kids Sake event again this year and equally excited to welcome Mark Boone Junior,” said Davis. “The funds we were able to raise from this event last year with the support from Kim and Theo Rossi (Juice) allowed us to meet the growing demand and provide the Game On! program to 245 boys in 23 schools across St. Catharines, Thorold and Niagara-on-the-Lake.”
In a recent interview with 97.7 HTZ FM, Kim Coates said he is excited to return to Niagara for the event.
“[Ride for Kids Sake] is in the summer, it’s in the Niagara Region, it’s Boone and myself, it’s a chance to say hi and goodbye to the SOA characters that people love so much and more than that, it’s for the charity,” said Coates. “It’s for such a great organization who did such a wonderful job last year. I look forward to seeing everyone again.”
This year, members of the public can enjoy an evening with the actors on the grounds of Chateau des Charmes in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Friday, July 17 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $150 per person and include a three-course dinner catered by Vintage Hotels with wine pairings courtesy of Chateau des Charmes, a Sons of Anarchy actor meet and greet, a Sons of Anarchy T-shirt and poster, live music and access to the silent auction. Tickets can be purchased online via bbbsmentors.ca or at guest services at the Pen Centre and at Clare’s Harley-Davidson of Niagara.
Saturday, July 18 is the charity motorcycle ride around scenic Niagara and the after party and autograph signing at the Pen Centre with the two actors. The ride starts and ends at the Pen Centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by the after party and meet and greet in the Pen Centre parking lot from 2–6 p.m.
Motorcyclists are invited to join the charity ride by pre-registering online at www.rideforkids.kintera.org and paying the $30 registration fee. As part of the V.I.P. Experience, the top four online fundraisers get the opportunity to ride in front of the pack with the two actors. Members of the public who are only interested in meeting the actors can do so by registering as a rider and paying the same rider registration fee. Only the first 400 pre-registered riders are guaranteed to meet the actors.
All funds generated from this event will go towards BBBS’s “Game On!” program. “Game On!” is a group mentoring program designed to encourage physical activity participation, healthy eating choices and the development of positive body image amongst boys ages 12-14, helping them live happier, healthier and more self-confident lives.
